Strip Lashes in 2 Minutes: A Guide for Women Who Have Never Tried
Share
You are not bad at strip lashes. The strip lashes you tried were bad for you.
That distinction matters, because most women over 35 who have attempted false lashes had exactly one experience: they bought a pair from a drugstore or Sephora, spent 20 frustrating minutes in front of a mirror, ended up with something that looked obviously fake, and swore them off forever.
Here is the thing. Those lashes were designed for a completely different use case. They were too long, too dense, too dramatic, and the band was too thick to sit invisibly at your lash line. You were set up to fail by the product, not by your skill level.
With the right lashes and the right technique, application takes under 2 minutes. Here is how.
Before you start
You need three things: a pair of natural strip lashes (short, light, thin band), lash glue (latex-free if you have sensitive eyes), and a lash applicator or tweezers. If you are using Sotto, all three come in your Starter Set.
Apply your eye makeup first. Lashes go on last, after eyeshadow and eyeliner if you wear them. Skip mascara on your natural lashes if you plan to wear strips, or apply one light coat and let it dry completely first.
Step 1: Measure and trim
Hold the lash strip against your eye without glue. It should start just past your inner corner and end at your outer corner. If it extends beyond either side, trim from the outer edge only. Never trim from the inner edge because the lashes are graduated to be shorter there, which keeps them natural.
This step is the one most people skip, and it is the reason lashes look fake. A strip that is too wide lifts at the corners and pokes the inner eye. Take 10 seconds to measure.
Step 2: Apply glue
Apply a thin, even line of glue along the entire lash band. Focus on the corners because that is where lashes lift first.
Now wait. This is the most important instruction in this entire guide. Wait 20 to 30 seconds until the glue becomes tacky. It should feel slightly sticky to the touch, not wet. If you apply while the glue is still wet, the lash will slide around and never set properly. Tacky glue grips on contact.
Step 3: Place the lash
Look slightly downward into a mirror placed below eye level. A makeup mirror on a desk or counter works better than a wall mirror for this.
Using the applicator or tweezers, place the center of the lash strip at the center of your lash line, as close to your natural lashes as possible. Press gently.
Then press the inner corner into place. Then the outer corner.
Center first, corners second. That is the sequence that works.
Step 4: Adjust and secure
Use the flat side of the applicator or the tip of your finger to gently press along the entire band. Make sure there are no gaps between the strip and your lash line. Pay special attention to the corners.
If a corner lifts, dab a tiny amount of glue on a toothpick and press it back down. This is normal for the first few times.
Step 5: Done
That is it. The whole process takes under 2 minutes once you have done it 3 or 4 times. The first attempt might take 5 minutes. The second attempt will take 3. By the end of your first week, you will not think about it any more than you think about applying mascara.
Removal
At the end of the day, gently peel the lash from the outer corner inward. Do not pull. If it resists, press a cotton pad soaked in oil-based makeup remover against the lash line for 10 seconds to dissolve the glue.
Peel any remaining glue from the band with your fingers. Store the lashes in their case. With proper care, each pair lasts 15 or more wears.
The real secret
The women who wear strip lashes effortlessly did not start that way. They just practiced for a week and stopped thinking about it. There is no secret technique. There is just repetition with the right product.
The Sotto Starter Set comes with everything you need for your first two minutes: 3 pairs of natural strip lashes, sensitive formula glue, and an applicator.
